Million Euro Dutch Contract for BKS

BKS Surveys Ltd has recently been awarded a major contract by the Ministerie van Verkeer en Waterstaat, Rijkswaterstaat, Data-ICT-Dienst for the supply of AHN2 Digital Ground model for Parcel No.2 in the North of The Netherlands.

The contract is one of two Lots awarded under AHN2 Contract DI-5524 and involves BKS acquiring and processing low level LiDAR data of an area covering approximately 365,000 hectares.

For the data acquisition, BKS will use Fugro’s FLI-MAP 400 helicopter mounted LiDAR system that combines an ultra-high frequency (150KHz) LiDAR with forward and nadir facing digital cameras and videos to capture high density (10pts per m2) point cloud data and associated imagery to survey flood defence assets..

BKS Go Digital

BKS Surveys Limited, a leading supplier of geographic information products and services, has this year introduced a complete Intergraph Z/I Imaging® DMC® Digital Mapping Camera airborne and ground processing system. 

BKS, one of a select number of companies in Europe to offer a complete range of data collection, mapping and GIS Services, will now be able to establish a fully digital photogrammetric workflow. 

With the purchase of the DMC, the company will be able to provide digital acquisition, speed delivery of high-quality imagery and offer enhanced aerial image options – black and white, colour and infrared imagery.

BKS are in the ‘Frame’

BKS Surveys Limited has been awarded a framework agreement under the new
ogcbuying.solutions framework for ‘Geographic Information Services and Solutions’ (GISS).

Fugro-BKS is now one of ten chosen accredited suppliers under Lot 2 – ‘GI Mapping Services’ and
Lot 3 – 'GI Data Services'.

‘GI Mapping Services’ will see BKS supplying aerial photography, photogrammetric mapping, orthophotography, rotary and fixed wing LiDAR data, geodetic control and land surveying services as well as terrestrial laser scanning, processing of satellite imagery, 3D city modelling and visualisations, CLEARCONE® remote higher precision highway surveying, hydrographic and bathymetric surveying.

Appointment of Neil Hewat as European Business Development Manager

BKS Surveys has expanded its sales team with the appointment of Neil Hewat to the role of European Business Development Manager. Neil will assume
responsibility for identifying and securing new business opportunities in key
European markets across targeted sectors.

Neil comes to BKS having acquired over nine years commercial sales and customer relations experience. He has a BA (Hons) in Modern Languages and is fluent in French, Spanish and Swedish.

BKS awarded a major 5-year Framework Agreement

BKS Surveys Ltd has recently been awarded a major 5-year Framework Agreement by the Environment Agency Southern Region for the supply of aerial photography through the Catalist procurement system.

The contract forms part of the ‘South East Strategic Regional Coastal Monitoring Programme’, which is one of the largest and most important studies of its kind anywhere in the world.

And the award goes to…… Melanie Hutton

Melanie Hutton, BKS Surveys Limited, has received a prestigious award from Ordnance Survey Northern Ireland commending her ‘Outstanding Contribution to GIS’.

Melanie, who studied the GIS Masters course at the University of Ulster (Coleraine), achieved the top mark in her year for her Dissertation. This prestigious award was presented to Melanie by Mr. Iain Greenway, Chief Executive of Ordnance Survey Northern Ireland.

BKS Contract News - Mapping "The Rock"

BKS Surveys Ltd has secured a major contract to supply Atlantic Geomatics (UK) Limited, Consultants to the Government of Gibraltar, with digital mapping for the entire land area of the ‘Rock’, a unique landscape measuring 6.4 square kilometres.

The Gibraltar Digital Mapping Project will ultimately produce a powerful geographic database containing land classification and natural and man-made permanent features down to street level detail.

The comprehensive vector data will be used to build a topologically structured database that is ultimately bounded by the Spanish border and coastline. A Digital Terrain Model with a precision of 0.1metres will also be created, providing unprecedented depiction of the distinctive topography.

BKS Strengthen GIS Team

BKS Surveys, a leading provider of geo-information solutions to government and private sector clients, has expanded its GIS team with the appointment of Melanie Hutton to the role of Technical Officer.

Melanie comes to BKS having completed a Masters degree in GIS. Prior to this Melanie also received a BSc First Class Honours in Geography. She plans to apply her theoretical knowledge and practical understanding to this new role.

LiDAR for Flood Defence

Trevor Burton (BKS Surveys Ltd) and David Scott (Mott MacDonald) explain how LiDAR data can be used to abstract flood defence data from low level LiDAR surveys to provide valuable information that meets policy guidelines whilst also assisting communities.

In 1997, to comply with Section 105 of the Water Resources Act of 1991, the Environment Agency (EA) began developing programmes to survey floodplains and map flood extents. Since this time, LiDAR from fixed-wing aircraft has been widely used by the EA and consultants to measure land topography for flood modelling and flood risk mapping purposes. Individual measurements of the terrain are made at a density ranging between a few points per square metre to 2m intervals and provide excellent coverage of the floodplain and also allow a highly resolved terrain model to be generated.

And The Award for ‘Partner of the Year’ Goes To…

BKS Surveys, has been named as the ‘FLI-MAP Partner of the Year’ by Dutch company Fugro Inpark BV, as part of their ‘4th International FLI-MAP Partner Day’ event held in September.

This prestigious award was presented to the BKS team by Huug Haasnoot Msc, Director of Aerial Acquisitions at Fugro, who commended BKS on the exceptional quality of their work and tremendous efforts in ensuring that the introduction of the FLI-MAP 400 system has been a huge success across the UK and Ireland.

BKS go Dutch!

BKS Surveys (UK) and its partners Advin and IV-Infra (Netherlands) have signed a major contract with the AGI (Adviesdienst Geo- informatie en ICT of Rijkswaterstaat (RWS) in the Netherlands, marking the beginning of a 2-year framework agreement for geo- survey services.

The framework agreement will take the form of mini-competitions to a select list of companies for work tendered by AGI and has an estimated value of approximately 13 million euros.

BKS Appoint Business Development Manager

BKS awarded a major contract for the UK Environment Agency.

BKS Surveys has recently been awarded a major contract for the UK Environment Agency. The contract, which is part of the Environment Agency’s ‘Flood Mapping Programme’ and falls in the North East Region, covers the rivers Aire, Ure, Swale, Nidd, Wharfe, Ouse, Derwent, Hull and sections of drain either side of the Humber.

BKS keep on the right side of the Green Dragon

BKS Surveys, one of Europe’s premier geospatial data providers, has recently become one of the first companies in Northern Ireland to be awarded the prestigious Green Dragon Environmental Standard Award.

The Green Dragon Environmental Standard, which was initially developed with support from the Welsh Assembly, is now open to local businesses through the partnership formed between ARENA Network and the Coleraine Borough Council.

BKS Qualifies for S-CAT Government Procurement Scheme

BKS have successfully completed the competition for inclusion in the S-CAT Geographic Information Service and Systems catalogue (www.s-cat.gov.uk).

OGC Buying Solutions (the UK Government procurement Agency) set up S-CAT to streamline the purchase of essential services for public sector organisations.
